I attended the 2013 Blackjack Ball and describe how close I came to becoming one of the finalists in the competition. (You can also try answering the 21 test questions given to the attendees as part of the competition, which is at the end of my article.) We have blackjack reports from four Las Vegas downtown casinos: Four Queens, Freemont, Gold Spike, and Golden Gate (by KC Brooks); the Silverton and Alamo casinos located off the Strip (by Stu D. Hoss); West Virginia Mountaineer and Wheeling Island casinos (by Mark Gruetze); and Atlantic City casinos (by Frank and Alene Scoblete). Be sure to read about the very good low stakes single-deck game in Hoss's report, and the bankruptcy of the new AC Revel casino in Scoblete's report. Vinny DeCarlo wrote an interesting and provocative article on some of the injustices that have occurred to casino employees (some of the stories are hard to believe but all true). The second part of the excerpt from Legends of Blackjack describes Kevin Blackwood's trip to the casinos in Wendover, NV, and his encounter with the Countess. Basil Nestor offers some tips on how to keep your mind and your body in tip-top shape while you do battle at the blackjack tables. John Grochowski answers reader's questions on blackjack, video poker, and craps, while Frank Kneeland describes several interesting new video poker games that he observed at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) that will be coming soon to Las Vegas casinos.
