No matter how well you play, keep the count, vary your bets correctly, deviate from basic strategy, etc. if the casinos do not allow you to play, what good are all of these attributes?
During my career as professional blackjack player, I met some of the best players in the country. However, they all had one thing in common: They were "barred" from playing blackjack in most casinos. IĎm probably fortunate to have started my blackjack career in Atlantic City where they sprang (unannounced) the ill-fated "Black Sunday" on card counters. This was when the only operating casino (Resorts International) began barring players, who they suspected of being card counters. They even went to the extent of opening what was then the first two-deck game at a couple of tables, knowing that it would attract card counters. Fortunately for me, I suspected that this was a ruse and didnít go near those tables (In a previous article in BJI, I mentioned this scenario.)
This taught me a lesson. I was firmly convinced that a person had to know more than just the established norms of card counting. There was a lot more to know and I was determined to learn everything I could to minimize the chances of being barred. How did I accomplish this? Keep reading.
I decided to learn how to "get into the heads" of casino personnel. I call it "DUE DILLIGENCE." As an ex-stock broker, I was familiar with this term, which meant "find out all you can about a particular stock, IPO, prospectus etc."
I decided to study what I call "Reading the Pit"...
