A WORD FROM HENRY

Do you know what N0 means (that's the letter N and the number 0)? If not you should, especially if you want to evaluate whether a double deck game is worth playing or not (read The Gamemaster's article for all the details). Joe Pane describes his experience tutoring a player and then playing against her in a recent major blackjack tournament (don't miss reading what happened). Barfarkel hits Vegas again and while playing, a casino surprisingly figured out who he was (read how they did this in Barfarkel's trip report). Ted Salveson paid a recent visit to Luxor and the new Planet Hollywood casinos in Vegas and reports on the blackjack offerings there and also describes his "ultimate blackjack hand." The Counter paid a visit to Foxwoods in Connecticut and reports on blackjack conditions in their massive casino. The MGM-Mirage is planning to build Atlantic City's biggest casino-hotel and Frank Scoblete has all the details in his Atlantic City Blackjack Report. If you win a blackjack tournament these days, you might get cash and also a promo chip. Ken Smith explains how to get the best value for that promo chip (good tips). Tournament Pro The Babe explains why the new TBJPA tournaments is a good deal for average blackjack players, while the old master Sammy Vaughn discusses his favorite topic, some friends he made after many years on the tournament trail. If you are a poker player, don't miss reading Bill Burton's article on defending the blinds. Lastly, we have a schedule of upcoming blackjack tournaments courtesy of blackjacktournaments.com.

I'll be playing in the TBJPA sponsored blackjack tournaments in November at the Tropicana in Las Vegas and look forward to meeting BJI subscribers (read The Babe's article for more details about the TBJPA).

Here's a special offer for BJI subscribers from Midwest Gaming & Travel magazine (www.midwestgamingandtravel.com). You can get a deluxe room plus dinner & breakfast buffets for two at the new Isle of Capri casino (Waterloo, IA) for only $69. Call 1-800-THE-ISLAND and mention promo code MWGHT (offer valid through Dec. 15).

PROMO CHIP PROFITS by Kenneth R. Smith

"Promo chips seem to be popping up everywhere these days in the tournament world, with many casinos choosing to pay part or all of the prize pool in promo chips instead of cash. It's easy to see why this trend has developed. A casino can advertise a large first place prize, and then award promo chips which are worth considerably less than cash. Most players assume that the promo chips are worth nearly half of face value, and the way most players use the chips, even that may be generous...."
