Readers Q&A #38
Dear BJInsider.com Expert Guide,
The following question was asked by

Is there any way of beating CSM(Continuous Shuffling Machine) game?
Which basic strategy (one deck, multiple deck) should one use?
Regards,
Gasper
Dear Gasper,
There is no way to gain the edge against a CSM where the cards are continually reshuffled after every few hands (assuming standard rules). You should use the multiple deck playing strategy if you must play in a game with a CSM.

Why do professional gamblers not just double their bet until they win if the are willing to stay in the game until it turns around.

Dear Allen,
Two reasons. Number one is that the maximum bet posted on every blackjack table will limit how many times a player can double his/her bets (usually it’s between 7-10 times). Secondly, using a betting system based on past events (ie winning or losing the previous hand) does not alter the casino’s edge one iota. It’s a losing strategy in the long run.
