INTERVIEW WITH BLAIR RODMAN
By Joe Pane
Joe Pane is a skilled advantage blackjack player and an experienced tournament player who has won over half a million dollars in blackjack tournaments. Besides competing in tournaments around the country and on the Internet, Joe writes the "House of Pane" column for "All In Blackjack" magazine and was recently hired by the Ultimate Blackjack Tour (UBT) as the Assistant Director of Tour Operations as well as the Team UBT Coordinator. His peers consider him to be one of the strongest blackjack tournament players on the circuit.
I recently interviewed Poker & Blackjack Tournament Pro Blair Rodman, who won a 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Bracelet and a whopping $700,000 for finishing first in the $2,000 No Limit Event. He beat a field of over 2,000 players who entered this event. Blair also won a UBT Medallion this year for winning a blackjack tournament. The show was taped and will appear this fall on CBS TV.
When did you move to Las Vegas?
Was your move to Las Vegas primarily for playing poker and blackjack?
No, I came here to work with some friends at Waterbed Warehouse, but gambling was definitely in the back of my mind, and not very far back.
Did you play card games from an early age?
Yes. When I was about 12 years old, I was playing poker with, and beating, 18 year old kids.
Which game have you been playing longer, Poker or Blackjack?
Which tournaments have you been playing longer, Blackjack or Poker?
Have you ever been asked to leave a casino for any form of advantage play?
Yes, a few times, but Iíve never played much cash-game blackjack. Iíve always preferred poker because I didnít have to play the cat-and-mouse games with the house.
