If youíve ever read any stories about the game of blackjack youíve probably heard of Stanford Wong. Heís the author of numerous books on the subject, as well as the brains behind some computer software programs that can analyze the game inside and out. His most popular book, Professional Blackjack, is used as a bible by many professional players and is one of the best books for anyone who wants to learn how to counts cards.
As the author the American Casino Guide, I often refer to Wongís books and software programs during the course of my work and although we talk on the phone periodically I must admit that I really didnít know much about his background. In the 30 years that Iíve been reading about gambling I donít ever remember seeing any stories about how he came to be a blackjack expert. I thought it might be interesting to explore this subject and in early 2002 I conducted an interview with Wong by telephone from his home in La Jolla, California.
