I have written on many occasions about learning more about the game you are playing. Now, most of you know I am not talking about casino level blackjack. I talk strictly about no holds barred, competitive blackjack tournaments.
It seems to escape most players that they must observe and learn if they expect to win a tournament. The thought of practicing for tournament play never even occurs to the majority of players. Yet, these same players will travel great distances and pay large entry fees, and then expect to win. Yes, every once in a great while this will happen (this alludes to my "blind squirrel" theory of blackjack playing). However, experienced tournament players win the majority of tournaments and that's no accident.
Over the course of the last year we have all witnessed the explosive growth of the Travel Channel. The championship poker tournaments that are telecast each Wednesday night draw several million viewers, which is the largest audience of any of their programs. I would never believe for a minute that viewers are watching this program for two hours each Wednesday night for the entertainment value because they already know the results (these tournaments were played months prior to the telecast). So, the question put before you is." why are they watching?"
