ST. LOUIS TRIP REPORT

by JPB

JPB has been playing blackjack and counting cards part-time since 1996. He plays throughout the country but primarily in Missouri. He has been a Green Chip member of BJ21.com for five years and one-time winner of the Post-of-the-Month. Casinos visited include:

Casino Queen (E. St. Louis, IL)

Hollywood (Maryland Heights, MO)

Lumiere (St. Louis, MO)

Introduction

Over the July and August 2015 period, I was fortunate to have several visits to St. Louis and the opportunity to play blackjack at several of the local casinos. I was receiving such attractive coupon/cash back offers, I could not resist taking the short drive to take advantage of the casino's generosity. On top of the attractive coupon offers, I found the blackjack conditions very good for the card counter.

On these recent visits, I was able to play at Hollywood and Lumiere on the Missouri side and Casino Queen on the Illinois side. There are three other casinos in the area that I did not visit on this trip: Ameristar, Argosy, and River City.

Casino Queen is right across the river (less than half mile from Lumiere as the crow flies) but requires a tortuous drive through a less than affluent area. Argosy is about 15 miles north of downtown and River City about 10 miles south.

Hollywood (777 Casino Center Dr. Maryland Heights, MO)

This is the former Harrah's casino. Fairly recently, Hollywood double -rules changed for the better. DAS is allowed, double on any two cards allowed, and you can resplit aces. This is a big improvement as the house advantage was nearly cut in half. Current conditions are...
