PROGRESSIVE VIDEO POKER PART 8:

The Times They are A-Changin'

by Frank Kneeland

Frank Kneeland was the manager of the largest progressive video poker team in Las Vegas, and has authored a book about his adventures entitled, "The Secret World of Video Poker Progressives". You can get the book as well as some extra info about Kneeland on his website www.progressivevp.com. In Las Vegas you can listen to his weekly radio show "Gambling with an Edge" (Bob Dancer co-hosts) at 7PM Thursday nights on KLAV Talk-Radio 1230am.

So come all ye players - Both normal and pro

And don't be in a hurry - because you might never go
If your thinking to leave - when the jackpot is low
Because there's always - another one waitin'
The slow progressive now - Is soon to be fast
For the times they are a-changin'.

Thankfully, fate stepped in and made my decision easy when The M Resort and Casino in Henderson, NV recently signed on as a new sponsor for my radio show and placed in their casino several progressive video poker games based on my design. Basically, the base games have a high-hold (i.e., high casino edge), but the meter rise for the progressive jackpot is off the scale (4%), which by far make up for the game types. Let me elaborate on just how big a deal this is.

Have you been worried that casinos are moving ever further from what's good for the player into a desert of tight machines where your chances of winning are on par with getting blood out of a stone? Worry no more! Reversing a two-decade trend of ever slowing progressives, The M has installed machines with a faster progression than has been seen on any dollar bank in Las Vegas since the late eighties.

If you are new to video poker in the last ten years, you may have heard stories about the glory days of progressive when words like "fast" and "rapid" were more than meaningless slogans thought up by advertising execs to describe banks of machines that "progress" slower than a bill for government pay cuts passing the house of representatives.

The M has been truly brave to bring back a...
