Gaining an edge at the craps table is possible. It is not easy. It requires lots of practice. However, the edge than can be achieved is much higher than any blackjack card counting method.

There are several components to dice control and all of them must be mastered to obtain an edge at the craps table. The Dice Control 101 series will cover them all. In this installment betting strategies for random rollers will be covered.

To review from the last installment on betting strategies for the Dice Controller: Unlike the static edge of a card counting at blackjack, the edge a controlled shooter has in craps is dynamic – it varies as a result of many different influences.

A very common mistake the controlled shooters make is to over-estimate their edge and therefore over bet their bankroll. Even the best controlled shooters will have losing streaks – sometimes very prolonged losing streaks. You must have an adequate bankroll and properly bet it in order to consistently make money at the game of craps.

Introduction

In the last installment betting strategies for controlled shooters were discussed. What betting strategies should be followed for random rollers? I famous philosopher whose name I can’t recall once said, "Hell is other people." For a controlled shooter, losing at craps is definitely other people. There is no way to win in the long run against random rollers because the casino either wins more bets or takes a cut of the winning bets – but this you already know. We will repeat, however: No betting system can beat a random game of craps. Anyone who says a betting system can overcome the house edge is lying or crazy or stupid.

That being said, the best advice for betting on random shooters is, well, --- DON’T. However, only playing at empty tables or with other controlled shooters is not very realistic. Also, casinos will most likely become annoyed if you stand at a crowded craps table and bet only on yourself. They want you betting so they can win your money. They don’t want you waiting 30 minutes until you get the dice back before you bet. So, since you must bet on random rollers, GTC recommends three tactics:

  1. Reduce the amount you bet on random rollers in relation to what you bet on yourself.
  2. Determine which random rollers you will bet on by using the Captain’s 5-Count.
  3. Have separate lines of betting for controlled shooters and random rollers.

Betting Levels for Random Rollers

Ideally, a controlled shooter will bet heavily on himself and other good Golden Touch controlled shooters and very, very low on random rollers. True, sometimes random rollers can have long rolls. Luck does that. But overall, you will lose whatever the house edge is on the money you bet on random rollers – long rolls or not. The lower your bets are, the less you lose on the random rollers. This is fact.

Now, let’s take a look at recommended betting levels on random rollers...
