UPDATE ON TUNICA PLAYING CONDITIONS:

BLACKJACK, CRAPS, VIDEO POKER, & ADVANTAGE SLOTS

by Jerry "Stickman"

Jerry "Stickman" has been an advantage blackjack player for three decades. He used the High-Low Count for most of that time. Currently he uses Speed Count. Although sacrificing some advantage, Jerry states the simplicity of Speed Count made blackjack a fun game for him to play once again. Craps (dice control), advantage slots and video poker are also in his arsenal of advantage play tools. He is an instructor for Golden Touch Blackjack and Golden Touch Craps.

His book "Specific Slot Machines That Give The Players The Edge" gives the reader all the information needed to have an advantage at certain slot machines. For more information go to http://goldentouchblackjack.com or http://goldentouchcraps.com or call 1-800-944-0406 for a free brochure. You can email Jerry at stickman@goldentouchcraps.com

Since my last report, Grand Casino Tunica has become Harrah’s Tunica, and Paula Deen’s buffet has replaced the venerable Grand Casino buffet. Has this change affected the games at the largest casino in Tunica? Read on to find out – but remember Harrah’s owns this place.

Because many of the readers of Blackjack Insider also play other advantage games, this report also contains information on craps, video poker and advantage slot machines.

Let’s begin.

A few things are true of all blackjack games in Tunica. Unless stated otherwise in the write-up the following rules apply.

For multiple deck games, the standard rules include: dealer hits a soft 17, double down is allowed on any two initial cards, double down after pair splitting is allowed, splitting up to three times making a total of four hands is allowed, splitting aces is allowed once with one card drawn to each ace, and surrender is not allowed in any blackjack game. Single deck games have the same rules except doubling after pair splitting is not allowed. I saw no continuous shuffle machines anywhere in Tunica.

Mississippi state law does not allow slot machines to pay 100% or more. This includes video poker so don’t expect to find any full pay Double Bonus or Deuces Wild. There are several 9/6 Jacks or Better games available, and occasionally you will find a Deuces schedule that pays very close to 100%. There are also progressive machines that have a 100%+ expectation once the progressive meter gets high enough.

Some Tunica casinos have slot machines that can have a greater than 100% return expectation if certain conditions exist. The casinos that offer these advantage slots are indicated below.

(Editor’s note: See Jerry’s article on Advantage Slot Machines in this issue of the BJI.)

Now let’s start from closest to Memphis and look at each of the nine casinos along the way going south.
